One of the lesser known features offered by Facebook is the ability to convert your personal profile into a business page. Facebook has strict 
policies requiring personal profiles be used by people—not businesses—and has offered up an easy way to make the transition.
Turning your profile into a page has some additional benefits and considerations. Business pages on Facebook are searchable by Google, which can be beneficial for business. Your friends will also get transferred over and listed as page “Likes,” so if you have a lot of friends, your page will be off to a good start!
When you convert your profile into a page, you will lose all of your data so Facebook recommends that you download a copy of your Timeline for future reference. Here’s how:
– Go to Account Settings from the drop-down menu in the upper right.
– Click on “Download a Copy of Your Facebook Data.” The data downloaded will include details you’re your timeline, a list of friends, photos and videos you’ve uploaded to your page, and more. Additional information on what will be downloaded is listed here.
Once you convert to a business page, you will need to start over by updating your timeline and adding details to the page. You might also want to post an announcement on your page to alert your friends about the transition.

Because I’m a blogger, and most people on my FB are old friends from school, I don’t post my blog there because I feel like I’d be sending a ‘newletter’ about my life to people that I really don’t want knowing that much about me. My blog is under a pen name, connecting a business page to my existing list won’t work for me. But after reading this, I’m more inclined to create a page specific to my blog on FB and connecting it with my Twitter and Pinterest Family.

There are lots of good reasons to start a business page, and more to your point, to separate friends and family from business. You can always invite them to come over and join your page!
